Living in the Past

Back in February, I was asked to help a model build her portfolio. She had some commercial and mainstream photos already, but she was lacking in unique and diverse photos to show all that she could do. Andrea D, the model, and I decided that she would look stunning in vintage style clothing and makeup.

Honest to goodness, I am a 1940s girl at heart. I adore the pincurls, classy makeup and the general way that women held themselves in the 1940s. They always seemed poised and beautiful in the pictures.

My grandmother once gave me a skirt she wore in the 1940s, and it is quite possibly my favorite skirt I have. When Andrea asked me to do a vintage shoot with her I got super excited. This was my chance to use all of those curling styles and makeup tips I had learned over the years!

So in essence,The shoot was amazing. We live near each other, so we used our neighborhood and the lake near my house as our location.

I had my best friend and model, Andrea K, help me do the makeup and hair and occasionally she would rearrange the outfits. The picture below is how we managed to get the dress to stay up for the photoshoot. Andrea used bobby pins to attach the dress trail to the tree branches. It was entertaining to watch. This was the end result: http://aisphotography.zenfolio.com/p875711890/h3832fd8d#h3832fd8d

I think this was probably one of my more favorite memories because Andrea D wanted to get in the lake, and it was 50 degrees outside! She had to take off her shoes and hand them to me, and once she got in the water, I handed them back to her. I am so glad she didn’t drop them because they were adorable leopard print pumps. She was such a treat to work with; she intuitively knew what I wanted out of the shot.

I love doing vintage photoshoots; it reminds me that you don’t have to be wearing ridiculous clothes or lots of flashy jewelery to be a beautiful fashion model.
