Romantic Portraits:Singing in the Rain

Right now, I’m listening to some really sappy music from my Disney playlist on my ipod. I’ve fallen into this pattern when I edit romantic photographs. It’s silly, but somehow Aladdin helps me edit my photos and make sure they are the right color and lighting to create the romantic “mood” of the picture that I want.

I have a tendency to rely on the weather to cooperate with my wishes without consulting the weather report first. This week, I had a romantic shoot scheduled for the late afternoon at the North Light Yacht club in Niceville. Low and behold, it rained cats and dogs. Attempting to defy the weather, I asked the couple to stand in the rain under umbrellas and “be cute”.(That’s code for “go make out and pretend I’m not here photographing your every move”)

I remained under the cover of the building while they stood under an umbrella and ignored the world around them. I love capturing moments like this because it really captures the relationship and the moment in time.

I’m really pleased with the result of soaking my clients and having to reshoot a few days later.

The next time we shot, I checked the weather report. It was really nice to work with this couple more than once because it helped them relax and act more natural in front of the camera.

Romantic Pictures: Niceville High School Prom

The flowers are blooming; the girls are having their nails done at the salon; the guys are frantically looking for the corsage. Prom season.

This year, I had the pleasure of photographing a friend of mine, Jamie, and her boyfriend, Brock, for Niceville High School’s Senior prom.

Jamie had the coolest story to tell me about her dress.  Not only was it handmade, but the corset came from Argentina! She visited Argentina this year and was on the hunt for the perfect prom dress.

Jamie visited a corset shop and stumbled upon the perfect corset for her. But this piece of work was far from ready for prom. There was no skirt and a few design flaws to work out. Over the next few months, the prom dress turned into something spectacular. The skirt of the dress was designed and sewn by Jamie herself.
